Transport Options
- In the connection configuration dialog there are 3 transport Options.
- Use Default. This option uses the default mode for the handset, if the handset
is connected to a BES MDS server it will use the MDS server to connect to the mobile
data server. This means that the MDS server must be able to make outbound connections
on port 6080 to mobiledf.iress.com.au. If the handset is not connected to a BES
server and has an GPRS access point specified for TCP/IP (see below) it will use
that access point.
- Use MDS. This option specifies that MobileIRESS will use the MDS service
to connect to the data server, even if you have configured a TCP/IP GPRS internet
access point. This means that the MDS server must be able to make outbound connections
on port 6080 to mobiledf.iress.com.au
- Use TCP/IP. This option specifies that MobileIRESS will specifically use
the configured GPRS internet access point for the handheld. This Access Point Name
(APN) is specified under Options -> Advanced Options -> TCP.
There are 3 input fields APN, Username and Password. The APN must be provided by
your service provider and enabled for your account. An example APN is "vfinternet.au"
for vodaphone. Be sure to check availability and charges with your service provider.
It can be VERY expensive without a good GPRS data cap plan.
If you get an error like "couldn't open tunnel" when trying to connect using TCP/IP
this APN has not been configured properly or you do not have access to it on your
specific plan. Contact your service provider for the correct APN and if necessary
to enable it.
